WasteLess Solutions’ Mission

WasteLess Solutions is a Utah-based nonprofit dedicated to the education, prevention, and diversion of food waste in Utah. Since 2018, WasteLess has rescued over 3.5 million pounds of food from reaching the landfill, getting over 2.8 million meals to individuals facing food insecurity in the community. In Utah alone, over 600,000 tons of food go to the landfill each year, while over 445,000 Utahns are struggling to access food. WasteLess’ food rescue, mobile markets, prepared meals, and gleaning programs work to bridge this gap in our food system while educating the public on preventing food waste at home.

WasteLess’ Food Rescue Program

Food rescue is the process of recovering safe, high-quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and redirecting it to people experiencing food insecurity. At WasteLess, we connect grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, farms, and other food businesses with local nonprofits through an innovative, app-based volunteer network. When a business has excess perishable food, volunteers rescue it and deliver it directly to organizations serving families, seniors, and individuals in need, keeping nutritious food out of landfills and on plates where it belongs. In 2025 alone, WasteLess rescued 566,941 pounds of food, providing the equivalent of 469,766 meals to our community. By expanding the network of food donors, volunteers, and nonprofit partners each year, WasteLess is building a more sustainable food system that reduces waste, fights hunger, and strengthens communities across Utah.

As our Food Rescue program continues to grow, so does the need for adequate cold storage and workspace. Every weekend, WasteLess rescues thousands of pounds of fresh, perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away. That food is then distributed through our weekday Mobile Markets and nonprofit partners when they are open and able to serve families. However, our current shared commercial kitchen has limited refrigeration space, and all food must be removed by Tuesday, creating significant logistical challenges that limit our ability to rescue, sort, and distribute food as efficiently as possible.

This year, WasteLess is raising $20,000 to build a refrigerated shipping container or to secure a larger commercial kitchen or warehouse space for rent. Expanded cold storage would allow our team and volunteers to safely store rescued food, sort donations based on the unique needs of our nonprofit partners, and ensure more culturally relevant foods reach the communities they serve. With reliable storage and workspace, we can rescue more food, reduce waste, respond more quickly to large donations, and maximize the impact of every volunteer hour and every pound of food rescued.

Every dollar raised brings us one step closer to building the infrastructure needed to feed more people while keeping good food out of the landfill. Sip & Savor Final Festival ticket proceeds will contribute to this fundraiser as well as any individual donation.
